A VR Journey Like No Other
RETNE is the first VR story produced and directed by NEON CEO Deepa Mann-Kler. Through the making of RETNE Deepa quickly realised the potential of VR to have a profound positive impact on mental health and well-being. RETNE is an immersive experience that creates an original and compelling VR environment for HTC Vive. It incorporates high quality animation, state of the art immersive audio and an original storyline that makes for a truly unique user journey. RETNE has had 30K downloads on Steam and Viveport; is available in CtrlV and ViRal arcades in Canada; participated in the VR Pavilion at the Nevada Film Festival 2017 and was a finalist for the Royal Television Society Interactive Content Awards 2017.
The user adopts the role of a tourist. The tourist is about to embark on a magical journey through virtual reality, visiting fabulous attractions in the new world that surrounds them, accompanied by a quixotic tour guide. Playful and interactive, RETNE engages the user to start and progress their VR journey using humour, sensory and interactive triggers.
Central to RETNE is your tour guide "Lil Mo", who has been voiced by actor Michael Smiley. The user must perform quests within the VR experience to reveal hidden secrets and special effects. RETNE really is out of this world, wholly consuming the senses from start to finish.
RETNE is available on Steam store now. Read our "Making RETNE" blog post to find out more about the inspiration behind RETNE and the development process.
I have just heard that I have been reappointed Visiting Professor In Immersive Futures with Ulster University in Northern Ireland for another four years. This wonderful news has caused me to pause and reflect on all the immersive stories and experiences that Neon has created over the last four years and the incredible people I am lucky enough to work with.
